Dialogue only way to resolve nuclear row: MP

TEHRAN -- Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Borujerdi said here on Tuesday that dialogue is the only way to clear up the remaining misunderstandings about Iran’s nuclear program.

“The United States does not want the Iran-EU talks over Tehran’s nuclear program to reach a satisfactory conclusion. Thus, it is trying to sabotage the negotiations through hasty measures like pushing for a sanctions resolution,” Borujerdi said during a meeting with German Ambassador Herbert Honsowitz.

Issuing a resolution to impose sanctions on Iran will not benefit the West, he added. The Islamic Republic seeks to reach a compromise based on the terms of international treaties, he explained, saying, “The European Union should also resist the illogical U.S. pressure and continue negotiations with Iran.”

Tehran-Berlin relations have greatly expanded since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, yet there is still great potential to increase bilateral cooperation, Borujerdi noted.

Ambassador Honsowitz said that Germany is determined to bolster ties with Iran in all areas.

“There are many ways for the two countries to strengthen regional cooperation, which should be explored,” he added.

He also emphasized the need to continue constructive talks to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.
